Day 6 / More than half way over :(

I think Brady is finally getting used to the time change, of course just in time to almost go home! He slept until 6:30AM this morning. I didn't have any set plans for today, I just wanted to take it slow today. We hung around and just relaxed for most of the morning. This meant that Brady ran back and forth to our room and my parents room screaming, went on the balcony and tried to throw everything off it, ran into the bedroom and bathroom and shut all the doors, and got into a lot of other stuff too. Brady has really started RUNNING these past 6 days - he is SUPER fast and i'm really NOT joking about that either! He is definitely taking after his mom and dad with the sprinting jeans.... he's loving every minutes of it, he laughs so much when he's running!

At 9AM my mom and I decided to make flower leis so Brady hung out with Chris and took a nap. The flower lei making class was kinda cheezy (like the ankle bracelet class) but it was fun to do with my mom. I thought they would have better flowers, we used carnations... so weird! I have never seen a lei made out of carnations but I guess that's what you get for $11.

After the lei class we came back to the room and decided to head to the beach/pool! On our way there we stopped to get clean/dry beach towels and Chris asked the attendant about the display of sunglasses they have on the desk. Well the guy told us that they are Maui Jim sunglasses (this meant NOTHING to me because I hate sun glasses and I never wear them). So the guy and Chris were talking sunglasses and ends up you can wear a pair for 30-60 minutes to test them out to see if you like them. So as they were talking I figured I would try a pair on because they had a style that I could see myself liking. Well once I put them on I realized that this is what a "real" pair of sunglasses are.... not like the $5 ones I get from the flea market. Maui Jim sunglasses feature a Polarized Plus2 lens - I know my brother has polarized lens sunglasses and Chris talked about getting a pair but after putting these sunglasses on I realized what I was missing!!!! So I signed out a really cute pair for the 30 minutes and we headed to the beach. OH MY GOD, I couldn't believe how clear/crisp everything looked! I could see INTO the ocean - I kept taking the sunglasses on and off to see the difference. I was totally sold - we decided to get the sunglasses.... we never splurge on anything for ourselves (we planned this Hawaii trip on a budget, and YES its possible). These sunglasses have NONE of the features that I HATE about every other pair of sunglasses that I have had before. It's seriously like you don't even have sunglasses on, I never liked how the glasses made everything dark - that always bothered my eyes.... these are NOTHING like that.... i'm in LOVE!

Ok, so after we played at the beach and bought our wonderful sunglasses we decided to hit the pool. Oh since we bought the sunglasses the resort hooked us up with some free stuff for the remainder of our stay, damn we should have bought the sunglasses on day 1!!!! They gave Chris free snorkel gear until we leave and we are going to get one of the gazebo's to use tomorrow by the pool!

There were a lot of little kiddies in the kiddie pool today, Brady made a friend.... a 19 month old boy named Meyer. I was talking to Meyer's mother and it's really funny how alike Brady and Meyer are! Brady caught the parents attention because we had all of these pool toys for Brady and I just got back from buying him this little hippo tube thingy that he was taking from this little girl but he wanted NOTHING to do with any of it. He had a ROCK and a PAPER CUP in his hand and he was sooooo happy! Well ends up that Meyer was playing with the same thing in the pool earlier today!

After Brady had enough at the pool we decided to go to the pool bar/grill for some lunch. When we were done with lunch Chris went to relax by the pool and I took Brady to the lobby because they were having a "build-a-bear" workshop for the kiddies. Brady made this really cool frog with a lei on it! He got a kick out of the whole thing, he had to put 3 hearts in the bear because he just thought it was so much fun!

Now it was nap time for Brady - but, just like Brady he decided that he was NOT going to sleep! Brady gets really cranky/angry when he's tired but can't fall asleep. Chris was back from the pool at this point so we decided that we would take Brady for a ride in the Jeep with the top down! We thought he might get a kick out of it. He did!!!! We liked it too because after about 2 minutes of being in the car he fell asleep! We went for a ride and then I had to stop at a store to pick up something, Brady slept the whole time... He woke up on our way back to the resort.

We got back and Chris had to put the top back up on the Jeep so I brought Brady upstairs - he was all riled up so my mom took him for a walk. I relaxed for a little bit then had to get ready for dinner. The resort was hosting an all you can eat crab fest. My dad LOVES crab so we decided to go. Ends up the crab was not as good as we thought it would be. It was cold and very dry.... oh well! Now we know for next time.... yes, there NEEDS to be a next time! :)

Now we are just relaxing before going to bed! Tomorrow is our last full day in Maui - how sad! We are thinking about doing a very short version of the Road to Hana tomorrow - it will be a great way to see some waterfalls and maybe get Brady in a natural pool!? We'll see!!

Day 5 - Relaxing Day at the Resort!!!

Howdy!

Well today was supposed to be just a relaxing day at the resort... but when you have a toddler there is no such thing as low-key or relaxing!!!!! Our day started out bright and early at 5AM again!!!! We had some breakfast and hung around our room! I was looking at the events for the day at the resort and I saw that they have canoe rides....I thought "how cool, I wanna do that!."

When Chris and I were here in 2008 we did NOTHING on the water. One of the only things I regretted about that last trip! You are in Hawaii, you have to take some sort of boat ride. The glass bottom boat wasn't exactly what I thought of for boat right, but it would have been fine if we decided not to do the canoe ride. I really wanted to go kayaking but who wanted to do all that paddling - going for a canoe ride sounded so much better!!!

So, they had an 8AM slot open - first thing out in the morning, sounds great! Only this is that it was 7:41 when we were at concierge trying to book this. They said they would wait for us on the beach but we had to go now. My parents watched Brady and Chris and I booked it to the beach. I didn't have time to change in my bathing suit but I figured what the hell, how wet can I get on a canoe ride?! Well boy was I wrong - thank God we didn't have time to read the waiver that we signed because I am sure somewhere in that fine print it would have said that if you're pregnant they suggest NOT going on the canoe "ride"! We were the ones rowing the boat!!!! Honestly, it wasn't that bad - even if I knew that going into it I still would have done it! It was AMAZING and now totally took place of the kayaking! I feel complete!!! We were in a boat with another couple and 2 "locals" that were really doing most of the work! We were out on the water for about an hour and it was an amazing hour. I really wish that I had my bathing suit on because at one point they let us jump in the water. Who am I kidding, I most likely would have NOT been able to get back in the boat and then my secret would have been blown that I am "with child" (good thing I had a baggy t-shirt on)!

After the boat ride I met my parents in the "Discovery Room" for "Toddler Time" for Brady! There were only 2 other kids in there playing but it was really cute. They have it again on Thursday and maybe we will go again. After 20 minutes Brady was sick of it so we left anyway - that's pretty much all he can handle of 1 thing anyway! I wanted to hit the pool after this because I was still sweaty after all the rowing that I did (Chris was smart and made the speedy change during the 1 minute that we had to get ready). I made my way up to the room to get changed and on my way down Chris was coming up because Brady was ready for a nap. My mom said that she would take Brady upstairs so Chris and I can relax by the pool for a while.

After pool time we went back to the room and Brady was sleeping - my mom and I decided to take the jewelry making class, her and I always liked to do that cheezy stuff. Oh, and boy was it cheezy - it wasn't even a class really it was just "here's some string, put some beads on it" class! I'm not sure what I really expected but it was just ok. It took us 20 minutes to make an ankle bracelet and we were done. After jewelry class it was lunch time then off to Whalers Village for some shopping!!!!

My parents decided to go to a Luau tonight. I really wanted them to go because I feel like you can't go to Hawaii and not experience a Luau, but I knew that Brady would never make it up that late. So they went to the Luau at the Westin and Chris, Brady, and I went to Downtown Lahiana to go to the BBQ restaurant. It was soooooo good! After dinner we just walked around downtown! We have realized A LOT on this trip that Brady is soooo much like me, he can't take the heat - during the day he is ridiculously cranky but he was great tonight. It could have been that he was "relaxing" during his sugar high from the 2 oreo cookies we got with his kids meal at the restaurant. But either way he was having a ball tonight, he was dancin in his stroller and clapping his hands. It was a perfect way to end a great day!!!!

Until tomorrow!!

Day 4??? I don't know i cant even remember!

When we woke up yesterday (Monday) it was a typical morning. Brady slept until 5AM today so he's getting a little bit more used to the time change. I know he's going to be adjusted when we leave to come home. Oh well!

We decided to take Brady on a glass bottom boat. I read online that this was good to do with toddlers, it was just an hour ride so I figured we would try it out. We went on the Reef Dancer - it looked kinda like a submarine from the outside and was bright yellow. We got to the pier early so we had to wait for a while. Since it was early in the morning Brady was happy! We went on the boat and it was about a 15 minute ride out to the reef so it was interesting keeping Brady occupied - we made through it though!

Once we got to the reef 2 divers got into the water and brought up all different types of creatures to the windows so we could see. The diver brought up 2 different species of sea urchin's, a day octopus, a sea cucumber, and some other things that I think I forgot! We also saw A LOT of Black Durgon Triggerfish they were pretty cool. I was really hoping to see a Sea Turtle but we didn't get to see any! :(

After the boat ride we came back to the hotel and hung out by the pool. The resort has a kiddie pool that has a pirate ship in it that has 2 water slides and sprays water. Brady LOVED it! He kept wanting to go down the slide, but someone had to take him because even though the water was only 1.5 feet deep it was still too deep for Brady to be in alone. We brought his little swim jacket but of course he won't wear it. If he would just keep it on he would realize that he LOVES it and would be able to play around all by himself - but instead he would rather have Mommy and Daddy chase him around!!! After going down the slide about a million times we had enough! We came back to the room and Brady took a nap!!!! This nap was much needed because we had 5:30 dinner reservations at Mama's Fish House (which is on the OTHER side of the island and will take about an hour to get there). We left around 4:15 for dinner and got there just on time. Brady took another short nap in the car and was EXCELLENT at dinner!

This restaurant is amazing!!! its right on the water with its own little beach and just the architecture of the building is so awesome! About 5 minutes before we were done with dinner that's when Brady was starting to lose it so I took him outside to walk/run around. He had a good time and we met a little Hawaiian girl that taught us how to say "dangerous" in Hawaiian (but I forgot, ha). Then there was a really cute dog that came running by (with his owner) and Brady just HAD to get to that dog, he took off running after it and was yelling "dag, dag, dag, dag....." as he ran like a drunkin sailor across the beach! I guess the owner heard him and said to me - "is he trying to get to the dog?" I said yes - so he was nice enough to stop.... Brady was just loving this puppy. He is 10 months old and his name is Legend - I think Legend like Brady a lot too! He kept giving him kisses!!!!

Brady stayed awake the whole ride home except for the last mile leading up to the hotel - when we got home Brady went right to sleep and Chris and I shortly after (at around 8PM) what losers!!!!!!!

Day 3! 10 hours in a plane, no problem.... 10 minutes in a bus, no good!

Hey Everyone!

Well we have concluded our 3rd day in Maui!!!!! Today started out GREAT! Well Brady woke up around 2AM - we had to give him a bottle to get him to relax again. He was then up every 20-30 minutes just being cranky! He got a little bit of a sun burn on his cheeks yesterday and also he has the nice bump/scab on his forehead from when he fell yesterday. He did fall asleep for 1 hour when he decided to fall asleep sleeping across me while I laid on my back. Brady and Chris slept soundly for that hour but I just wasn't comfortable. So, lets just say - today has been a LONG day!

Chris and I have been itching to go back and do the "Road to Hana Tour" but i'm not too sure if I am up to the whole thing this time around. Being pregnant, tired, and taking care of Brady is just exhausting! Traveling with a toddler is NOTHING like when we were here on our honeymoon 3 years ago. But, I wouldn't change this for the world!!!

We decided to go see the Nakalele Blowhole that is a few miles from our resort. We though this would be a good opportunity to show my parents a little around Maui and give us the chance to hike with Brady. We are so happy that we decided to do this. We never explored north of where we have stayed in Maui and it was really great! The ride to the blowhole was A LOT like the Road to Hana, so this gave us the chance to show my parents what Maui is really like. When we got to there we had to hike about 1,200 feed from the road which 205 feet was DOWN! This was a lot of fun and Brady got a kick out of it. Every little step he would say ohhhhhh, ahhhhhhhhh, or Mama! He really enjoyed himself!!! My parents didn't take the hike down but you could see the blowhole from the top of the volcano. It was truly amazing! I'm really happy that we hiked down - going up wasn't as easy as going down but I had a blast (especially seeing how much fun Brady had).

After visiting the blowhole we decided to visit Makalua-puna Point, towards the shoreline there is a long point of lava that separates 2 large beaches. The lava here is different than the typical lava found all over Hawaii. This site is also known as "Dragon's Teeth" - when the volcano was erupting (way back in the day) - the waves caused the lava to push up making the lava look like "dragon's teeth!"

After this we were in the car for a while and we let Brady walk to the Dragon's Teeth because it was a quick 10 minute walk along a grassy golf course! Well now he wanted to do everything on his own! He thought he could hike on his own and climb the rocks - he really has a mind of his own!!!! We headed back to the resort after this and grabbed some lunch. After lunch we caught the shuttle bus from our resort to Downtown Laihana (one of my favorite places). Well they wouldn't let me bring my stroller on the shuttle bus because they said it was too big and couldn't fit in the overhead area of the shuttle. They let us borrow this little cheezy umbrella stroller that was just awful. Brady sat in it for a little bit and thankfully fell sleep for 40 minutes, but once he got up he was up. He wanted NOTHING to do with that stroller! This made the rest of our day really hard! We were able to keep Brady clam by letting him play with the rocks that he found in the Banyan Tree Park. But of course trying to take him away from the rocks didn't happen without a fight and an embarrassing temper tantrum... this happens to all kids, right?!?!?!

We realized that we needed to get back to the resort and just let Brady hang out for a little bit, in his defense we were going non-stop the whole day and I guess this was his way of telling us to slow down! Brady did NOT want to be on the shuttle bus on the way home! The bus was VERY VERY crowded and it was really HOT! He definitely takes after his mom.... he can't function properly when he's hot! I know the feeling and its horrible! I think the whole bus pretty much cheered when we got off the bus (not joking either!!!). Brady did wonderful on the 10+ hour travel day to get to Hawaii, but he couldn't stand a 10 minute bus ride!

We did slow down after this, we just stayed in and relaxed the rest of the afternoon. Well, thankfully my parents said that they didn't mind watching Brady while Chris and I go out to dinner! YAY, Date Night!!! :)

We decided to go to Duke's Boat House - this restaurant was in a new condo/timeshare rental place (well it looked brand new, I have to check it out). The food was excellent! It was really nice to get out and just have adult conversation over dinner! I miss that! :)

When we got home we missed Brady, my mom already had him bathed and in bed!!!! She said she couldn't even keep his eyes open anymore.... guess that means another early day tomorrow! That's ok though, we have a reservation to go on a glass bottom boat tomorrow at 10AM!

That's it for now

Day 2 / What time is it!?!?!?!

We woke up at 4:30AM - what an early time to start the day. It was still dark out but we finally got to unpack and Brady got to explore our villa! He LOVES it here. He is just so happy running from room to room and looking in the mirror and going on the balcony. We rented a time share that has 2 units. So we share a common entry way with my parents but then there are 2 separate units. Chris, Brady, & I have the larger 1 bedroom unit. It has a full kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom, and HUGE bathroom - with a jacuzzi tub and really nice stall shower! It's a great resort and i'm glad that we definitely went with the condo route! Having the full kitchen has been key!

Brady played for most of the morning, my mom gave him a bath while we unpacked and we just got ready for the day. I think we were all showered and ready by 7AM (it might have even been 6:30). We decided to take a stroll around the resort to just get an idea what it looks like. When we got in last night we were all so exhausted and the last thing we were worrying about was the resort. So we walked around and its BEAUTIFUL here, not that I expected anything less! I was anxious to get Brady to the beach. We took B to the Jersey Shore in June but he wasn't that crazy about it! Who wouldn't LOVE the beach in Hawaii? Well Brady has been added to the list of "Hawaii Lovers"... he absolutely LOVED the beach! I didn't think we would get him into the water this early so he wasn't even wearing a bathing suit but he had to get into that water!!! He had no fear of the huge waves (ok, well maybe they weren't huge... but if you're 18 months old they had to look huge to him). He just giggled and laughed every time he felt his toes go a little further into the water. (I wish I had the energy right now to upload the pictures, but I just don't. Maybe tomorrow I will upload the pics and update this post).

After the mini stop at the beach we decided to get breakfast - then we went to the store to pick up some essentials for the week. We went to Walmart, Costco, Safeway, & Walgreens.... now that I am typing this it doesn't seem necessary to do this but I guess it was. When we got home we decided to hit the beach & pool. Oh, before hitting the pool Brady slipped and fell on the balcony and got a nice shinner/bump on his forehead!!!!! He didn't cry though!!!

Second time around Brady was still loving the beach. He just did not want us to hold him - he was really trying to get out of our hands. The water was SOOO strong that it was a little scary, it was even pulling me in. We thought maybe we would go to the pool - they have a kiddy pool thats 1.5 feet deep and it was perfect for Brady. As no surprise he didn't want us to hold him in the water. We stayed close by the whole time but we let him walk on his own..... he slipped a few times and went under the water and he didn't even cry!!! He is such a tough kid!!!!!

After hanging at the pool we had some hot dogs for lunch by the pool, I couldn't believe that Brady ate a whole hot dog... it was HUGE! After lunch we headed back to the villa to see if Brady would maybe take a nap. Chris and I ran to the store and Brady stayed with my mom and Dad. At this point he was way overdue for a nap, but being on NJ time it was already 1 hour past his bedtime. They went for a walk and Brady slept for over an hour. When we got home Chris and I took a MUCH needed nap then we woke up Brady so he didn't use nap time as bedtime. He was very cranky and just didn't know what to do with himself. My mom reminded me that they had a Koi Fish Feeding Experience for kids at the hotel. We thought it was a perfect way to distract Brady and maybe get him to forget that he's even tired. Well, it worked!!! He LOVED feeding the fish - they are some crazy fish when they are hungry. Some of them were even jumping up out of the water because they wanted the food. After feeding the fish it was time for dinner! We picked up food to have dinner back in the room.

The ending of our day/night has been uneventful - dinner, bath time, and bedtime for Brady. Chris went to the gym and i'm not updating the blog. Not sure if i am going to be able to stay up much longer. I feel my eyes getting very heavy!!!!!!

I think it's time for bed!!

Day 1 - The longest travel day, EVER!

Hey Everyone!

Greetings from Hawaii! I swear this is the first free minute I am getting since being here in Hawaii (for officially 24 hours now). I knew this time change thing sucked but it's sucking really bad! Honestly, I think Brady is doing better than all of us! Chris, my Dad, & I are all still on EST - my Mom on the other hand... She NEVER sleeps so she feels fine.

My computer is still set on "home time" so it's 1AM - that makes it 7PM here! Brady is sleeping, my parents are in their room and Chris and I are on the couch about to pass out for the night!

Well now that I told you how much the time change sucks - lets talk about our day yesterday. Our day started at 3:30AM. We used this time to get our last minute stuff together - the car picked us up at 4:15AM!!! I waited until the last minute to get Brady from his crib. We had the car all packed and it was time to get B! So I went into his room and he looked so cute sleeping on his belly with his butt sticking up in the air, his little arms were tucked under him in a cute little ball! I really really really didn't want to wake him, but I knew if I didn't then he wouldn't be on the vacation of his lifetime (that he won't remember anyway - terrible parents we are!!).

Of course as soon as I picked Brady up he was WIDE AWAKE - I do not have that kid that you can pick up sleeping and they just stay asleep. Brady is just like me... nosey, scared to miss anything, and fearless to the world! I guess I only have myself to blame for this one, huh!

Well - the ride to the airport was typical but Brady was getting a kick out of being the ONLY car on the road. Since Brady goes to bed so early he has NEVER been on the road in the dark with NO other cards on the road. When he did see a car he would point to it and go "ohhhhhh!" We got through the airport with no issue, the line at security was a breeze! Chris and I are an amazing team - we got all our stuff in the bins, shoes off, computers out, liquids ready, stroller folded up, and car seat to the TSA agent. It was like we were pro travelers! Well, we did have my parents help as well so I guess we aren't that "super hero" like... but if we had to do it again I would feel confident that we could handle it!!!

We got to the gate and Brady was fascinated with the airport - the planes, people, and all the stuff to look at kept him VERY occupied! We got some food and snacks and just hung around until it was time to board. We were flying United Air and we were able to board the plane first since we were traveling with Brady. I felt so cool to be able to get up when the "families with children under 4" category was called. They also let my parents board with us at the same time so again that was a big help! But it all went so smooth!

So, now we are on the plane and my anxiety was definitely in full force. I just really didn't want to be looked at as "that Mom" with the screaming kid. I was prepared! I had books, toys, snacks, candy (that I thankfully did NOT have to resort to), juice, coloring books, movies, iPods, iPads, iPhone, and a lot of other trinkets and trash for him to get his hands on! We decided to travel with Brady's car seat and this was the best decision we made. Brady doesn't nap very well so having his car seat was a safe place for him - he sleeps in there a lot so we knew he would be comfortable there. We had it strapped in and I was ready with the pacifier and bottle in hand to help with his little popping ears. Well, we are getting ready to move back from the gate and I look over at Brady (sitting in the aisle seat) and he's sleeping!!! WHAT!?!?!?!? REALLY!? could this be? I was certain that we had an "Uncle Nathan" on our hands since he was sleeping the second he got in his seat. Now i was just praying that he stayed that way for the entire flight!

Well, I was wrong! The nap only lasted about 30 minutes. The pilot wanted to give us an official welcome and that woke up Brady. I wanted to give that pilot an official knuckle sandwich but it was ok. I really don't have much to report on the flight - he was GREAT! I mean was he perfect and just slept and let me read my magazine, or play a game on my phone, or even have a cup of tea? NOPE! But he was excellent! I was pretty much certain that he was going to be a little monster! Boy did he show me wrong - my little boy is really growing up! We did have to do some shuffling around at times on the plane... Chris did have to stand for a while because Brady decided he no longer wanted to sit in his car seat he wanted Chris' seat. We walked up and down the aisle, sang songs, watched movies for 5 minutes at a time - besides 1 more 30 minute nap it was a NON-STOP 5 hours! TOTAL EXHAUSTION!!!! Wow - how full-time stay at home moms do it i have NO IDEA!!!!

The layover in San Francisco was longer than I hoped for - it was a long 3.5 hours - but we at lunch, hung around, and they had a little play area for kids so that was helpful. Brady has a new love for those people mover things in the mall... we must have walked up and down those things at least 100 times. At this point I am beyond exhaustion - Chris really stepped up and took care of Brady so much, it was non-stop running around after him!!! Of course Brady started to get really heavy eyes about 10-15 minutes before we were about to board the plane. So, Chris decided to take him to walk/run around the airport again to keep him away so that he hopefully sleeps on the plane.

Thankfully there were A LOT of kids on this leg of the flight. I was wondering if we were going to Hawaii or Disney World?! This calmed my nerves a bit because at least there were a lot of kids maybe they wouldn't know which kid was screaming? The horrible part about this leg was that we sat on the runway for OVER an hour! Once again Brady slept as soon as we put him on the plane.... and what woke him up???? That damn pilot again! Arghhhhhh!!!!! But at this point Brady did NOT close his eyes again it was 5.5 straight hours of overtired Brady. Still overall Brady was excellent on the plane (for an 18 month old). We even tried to make him a bed by using my parents 2 seat trays and covering them with blankets to make them comfy. Brady just would not give him! I hope he has this determination the rest of his life because then he will succeed in anything he puts his mind to! The poor baby was so tired (along with the parents) but he just wouldn't shut his eyes. He didn't shut his eyes until we put him to bed at 6PM hawaii time (so MIDNIGHT EST). This was the longest day EVER but once I got back on this volcanic island I was so excited the beginning of this day was a total blur!!!

I couldn't even make it through dinner (we ordered room service). At about 7PM I just got up and went to bed. Brady woke up at 2AM and we gave him a bottle, he didn't sleep very well after this point. The crib that the resort has is very small - he pretty much takes up the whole crib. So, we did something that we normally don't do... we brought him into bed with us. The main reason that we usually don't do this is because Brady will NOT sleep, he thinks its playtime. I knew this decision could turn awful, but I was still exhausted and I could tell that Brady was too! Well he went back to sleep as soon as he hit the bed (which is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in). We all slept until 4:30AM then we were up!

So this concludes day 1 - LOOONG SUCKY TRAVEL DAY!

XOXO
