Brady's 3rd Month!

Well Brady has had a pretty rough 3rd month of life. We all know about his 2 night hospital say for his hernia's (which are completely healed). The new thing added to the list of worries is that his has really bad reflux! I swear this poor baby can not catch a break! I really thought all of his crying/screaming was from the hernia. I was excited to bring him home from the hospital and have my "happy" baby back. Well, the crying/screaming did NOT stop... it actually got worse! I was then sure that he had colic because he really only cried screamed from like 5PM - 8PM. The surgeon did put Brady on Zantac for reflux because he said that hernia and reflux go together. I had NO idea that it would get worse once the hernia was fixed! So, I decided that the Zantac was not working so I did some research online and my friend Melissa recommended Colic Ease which helped with colic, gas, & reflux. Seemed like a miracle! So, the next day I sent Chris to Town and Country Pharmacy in Ridgewood to get this miracle substance! We started giving it to him the very next day - he ended up having an "ok" day but I wasn't sold that this could work that fast. I decided it was time to get out of the house. For a week or so before that I wasn't really going anywhere because whenever we put Brady in the car seat he would SCREAM BLOODY MURDER so I didn't see any reason to torture him by putting him in the car seat. I thought I would run to my favorite store, Target. Well, we made it to Target without any crying but.... after being there for about 10 minutes the bloody murder screaming started - of course EVERYONE was looking at me and I felt like a total jerk. The only good thing is that the crying could stop as quick as it starts so it didn't last too long. We continued to give brady the Colic Calm a few more times that night and it really did seem to be working. However, I decided that I would call the dr in the morning because I just knew that this wasn't right!

The next morning I spoke to the nurse at the office and she suggested that I come in to see the dr, that made me really happy! So I fed Brady and made my way to the dr. (I noticed that he screamed less in the car when he had a fully belly). I stopped to get gas and of course when the car stops the crying starts. So I got out of the car to put Brady's pacifier back in his mouth, he pretty much stopped but was still fussing a little bit. I got back in the drivers seat and I was just reaching back and gently moving the car seat so this way Brady thought we were moving. This worked! A few seconds later the gas station guy knocked on the window, now I didn't think the tank was full yet because I was only there for a minute or so. WELL - this gas station worker proceeded to tell me how what I was doing was wrong and I could damage the babys neck. I was totally shocked!!!!! My first reaction was to say WHAT?! to him... then he repeated what he said so I asked him if he was a dr, he replied and said NO but that he had 4 children and I was moving the seat toooo much and would damage the babys neck!!! WTF - this seriously was the LAST thing I needed, I then pretty much told him to mind his own business and rolled up the window. I really can't believe he said that to me, i was moving the car seat so little, he swings faster/harder in his swing. This gas station guy officially threw me over the edge, I was livid! A few minutes after this I was talking to Jess and boy did she get an earful!

Anywho - I made my way to the dr and told Dr. Rodriguez that Brady is no longer a happy baby. This is something that she would always ask... "is Brady happy" and i always said yes. So after my Target experience and the gas station guy telling me that I was "doing it wrong" I almost broke down but I held myself together and as soon as she walked into the room I said "Brady is no longer happy!" Dr. Rodriguez was sooo happy to see Brady, she is an awesome dr! She was so concerned about his surgery and she was just so happy to see him and see how BIG he got! (oh by the way he weighed 12lbs 8oz). So, I explained to the dr was was going on with Brady and she said everything I was saying was perfect for Reflux Disease. I don't like saying disease so I just say he has reflux. She prescribed Prevacid and said that it should take a week max for me to have my happy baby back!

The next day I started giving Brady his medicine and I was still continuing to give him the Colic Ease and he has been doing GREAT! It's been 5 days so far and I can already see the difference! Before Brady would cry A LOT while eating, he spit-up or threw-up a lot, and most of the time when he burped he screamed.... he has been so much better. Oh, the dr also told us that the reflux was/is the cause of the screaming in the carseat. The position that it puts him in causes the acid to come up. So since we started the Colic Ease (and i'll give a little credit to the medicine since we are giving it to him) he has been so much better and doesn't cry much in the car!

So mostly for Brady's 3rd month we dealt with reflux and hernias. I am really hoping to a better 4th month! We do have 1 hi-light - on June 9th Brady started crying with REAL tears with a month like he had i could understand why the tear ducts started working!!!

Well....until next time
XO
Jill
